Purpose

She sat on that doorstep for years smiling up at me.  Not a day went by without her dimples and soft hello.  I never realized how much it meant to me till it was gone, such a simple thing as her blue eyes and happiness.  I know saying so is cliché but it’s the only truth I can hold onto.  Her lingering as the sun set listening to my wants for the world beyond gave me hope.  Now I return, those very hopes dashed, searching for her.    It turns out she was my spark, the reason I wanted more.
